GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

The mistake of many is the belief that an electric guitar, bass guitar or synthesizer plugs into a power outlet and sounds. But it’s not that simple

In order to hear sound, sound amplification equipment is required. Electronic muses themselves. the instruments sound very quiet (electric guitar, electronic drums, bass guitar), or they don’t even sound at all (keyboards).

For the sound of electric and bass guitars, you need a “cabinet” (speakers) and a “head” (amplifier), or a combo box (“head” and “cabinet” connected together).
To sound the keys, a linear input is required in the mixing console (a mixer is an electronic device designed to sum the sound signals of several sources into one or more outputs) to which a signal is sent.
Electronic drums have a similar connection principle, like keys. The sound of each drum is sent to the electronic module, from which it already enters the mixer input.
Acoustic drums are the most difficult to configure and most often used. A microphone is installed on each drum (barrel, snare, viola, volume, floor volume), the sound from these microphones enters the mixer. But that’s not all; there are still plates. “Hat” (two cymbals mounted on the same shaft and controlled by a pedal) and “ride” (cymbals with a clear, hissing sound) are heard by microphones, then two microphones, called “overheads” are installed on the right and left above the reels. They capture the overall sound of the cymbals and create stereo sound. All microphones from the cymbals are also fed to the mixer.
Vocal microphones directly or through processing (reverb effects, sound compression, etc.) are included in the mixing console. If the team has wind or other acoustic instruments, the sound is also taken from them by microphones, as well as from drums.
Next, the sound from the mixer goes to the audio power amplifier, then the signal is transmitted to the speaker system, from which the listener in front of the stage hears the sound.

SOUND ON SCENE. SAUNCH
But that is not enough. At a banquet, musicians must also hear themselves on stage. If the sound is bad and unreadable and the musician does not hear himself or his partner, then he can go astray, fly out of tonality, play the wrong notes or even break his voice. The performance will turn into a nightmare for both speakers and listeners.

In order for the musicians to hear themselves, speakers are set on the stage aimed at the group. Most often these are floor monitors (special speakers for sounding the scene), sometimes they use lumbago (the usual not very powerful speakers standing on each side, directed towards the stage).

Before the performance, musicians must adjust the instruments and sound – this event is called a sound check. It can last from 30 minutes to 3-4 hours.

The drum kit is the first to be tuned .. The drums should be tuned so that you’ll be “rocked” by their sound 🙂
After tuning the drums proceed to the bass. They try to get an even, dense sound from her, so that, together with the drums, they are one
Then they tune the guitar. It should be readable, the viewer should hear a bright, even sound, but at the same time, the guitar should not be very loud
The keyboards are tuned in a smooth, pleasant and balanced sound to create surround sound and full music space
Great attention is paid to vocals, because the success of the group depends on it by 80%. The microphone is adjusted depending on the type of vocals: male or female. They try to get rid of spurious frequencies and pickups (everyone has ever heard the whistle at concerts, that’s what they are). The voice must be read, it is necessary that every word of the vocalist tries to reach the listener
Ultimately, tuning comes down to creating a musical picture in general. The listener should not be annoyed by anything, or vice versa should not force him to listen to something.

But even if the musicians are professional, they can sound like a courtyard group due to poor-quality equipment, an unsuccessful sound check, and the lack of a sound engineer.

It is also necessary that the speakers do not worry, do not irritate, but only have positive emotions and good mood, then the concert will be held 100% regardless of anything. Both the viewer and the musician will be satisfied with the performance and will remember it for a long time!
