How to learn to improvise on a guitar

If you read this article, then you want to achieve something more in music than to play a minor sequence in a circle, and therefore, you should be ready to work hard. Improvisation is a serious step in mastering the guitar, which will open new horizons in music, but it should be remembered that there is no quick way in this matter. Be prepared to devote a lot of time to classes and be patient, only then can you succeed. WHERE TO BEGIN? So, what do you need in order to learn how to improvise on a guitar? First of all, of course, the guitar itself. An acoustic or electric guitar does not matter much, only the material that you have to study (but not completely) will differ, and what you will play as a result. Due to the differences between an acoustic guitar and an electronic one, the playing methods also differ, in addition, where the acoustics fit perfectly, the electric guitar will simply be inappropriate. But this does not mean that if you want, for example, to play heavy, you need to throw away your acoustics and run for an electric guitar. By learning to improvise in one style, you can easily master another. The main thing is to master the basic principles. First of all, it is necessary to master the basic scales. For starters, you can limit yourself to pentatonic. In pentatonic, unlike ordinary frets, there are no half-tones, in this regard, in such a gamut there are only 5 sounds. In order to get pentatonic, it is enough to remove from the usual range of steps that form a semitone. For example, in C major these are notes of f and si (4th and 7th steps). Continue reading

Strings of the soul of Alexander Marshall

Once he preferred music to a military career and reached real heights: the Gorky Park group, in which he performed, became famous throughout the world, and all its members became idols of a whole generation. They were met at the best venues in America and Europe, fans were ready to go for musicians around the world, but Alexander Marshall for a long time was looking for his true happiness. He does not like to talk about his personal life, too often he had to lose and start all over again.

He was born in the village of Korenevskaya in the family of a military pilot instructor and dentist. The family lived in a military town, and my mother, who was incredibly fond of big cities, dreamed of her son growing up and becoming a waiter in a posh restaurant somewhere in Leningrad, going between tables in a bow tie. The father did not support the wife’s wishes and advised Sasha not to pay attention to the thoughts of his mother. Continue reading

Ancient musical miracle: Throat singing from shamanistic rituals to the modern scene

It may seem to people unfamiliar with this art form that the sounds they hear are actually made by a musical instrument. It is difficult to imagine that human ligaments are capable of this, especially when masters of throat singing do the almost impossible – they begin to sing with two voices at once. Some types of such peculiar music are not even amenable to musical notation. Researchers believe that the peoples of Siberia and Central Asia, owning this art, are the guardians of the oldest method of sound production lost in other countries.

Listening to throat singing, you can catch many sounds: the murmur of water, echo, rockfall in the mountains, the whistle of the wind, the voices of birds and animals. The basis of this ancient art was the onomatopoeia of nature. We can say that this is the very foundation of music, its historical roots. Ancient hunters lured prey like this, nomad cattle breeders controlled their pets with their voices, ministers of ancient religious cults communicated laryngeal sounds with the gods, because a simple human voice was not suitable for such unusual purposes.
